Is it possible to make calls from a MacBook? We call any number from your Mac. Continuity doesn't work

Need to record a phone call via ? Maybe you're interviewing someone and want to record the entire conversation, or maybe your job involves making phone calls and you want to test yourself. Whatever the reason, there are several different ways to record a phone call through , but we'll tell you about the easiest one.

This method works for recording calls from an iPhone or Android smartphone, as well as from old mobile phones. The audio file with the recording will appear on the Mac itself.

Please note that different countries have different laws prohibiting the recording of telephone calls. Check your country's laws before recording a conversation. Most often, all participants should be aware of the recording of the conversation.

How to record a phone call onMac

You'll need a Mac with a built-in (or external) microphone, an iPhone or Android smartphone, and a quiet room to record the conversation.

  1. Open QuickTime Player on your Mac, go to the File menu and select New Audio.
  2. Place your smartphone next to your Mac.
  3. Mute your Mac by pressing the mute button on your keyboard.
  4. On your iPhone (or Android smartphone), start a call.
  5. Switch your smartphone's sound to Speaker.

  1. Click the record button in QuickTime on Mac.

  1. When you're done talking, stop recording in QuickTime by clicking the same button.
  2. Save the audio file in QuickTime as usual.

This is the simplest method, and it is convenient because it works with any phone and any Mac. The Mac just needs to have a microphone, and the smartphone needs to have speakerphone mode. The method is also very reliable.

You can also record calls via FaceTime, Skype and other instant messengers. Generally, calls made over Wi-Fi sound better. However, the audio quality of this recording will not be the best, since the Mac may record extraneous sounds.

If you have a computer running OS X, then I think you have already called your friends and colleagues using FaceTime more than once. The sound quality of such a call, both audio and video, is many times better than a regular phone call. Moreover, it is fast, simple and convenient.

Good habits stay with us for a long time (if not forever) and therefore, once again, when I wanted to call, I encountered a problem: my interlocutor did not have an Apple device, so the call had to be made from a phone. But you know that mother laziness is insidious. And even reaching into your pocket or reaching your hand to the table with an iPhone is a thankless task...

Apparently, developer Shreyas Siravara encountered the same problem, so he decided to get out of the situation in a fairly ordinary way for a programmer: make his own application, with which you could make calls from your Mac to regular phones.

The Connect app is fairly simple to use: you connect your iPhone to your Mac via Bluetooth, and then select the person you want from your contacts list. One simple press of the call button will start the call.

But let's take things in order. After launching the Connect application, you will be prompted to create an iPhone-Mac pair. To do this, you need to activate Bluetooth in the settings of your Mac (System Preferences - Bluetooth - Enable), and then do the same on your smartphone (Settings - Bluetooth - Enable). You will see your smartphone in the application window (if this does not happen, repeat the search by clicking on “Try Again”). To establish a connection between them, click the button next to the name of your iPhone “Pair and Connect”, and after a few seconds the connection will be established.

Now, in the menu bar at the top, you will have a new icon with a handset symbol. Everything is ready, you can make your first call. To do this, click on the application icon and allow Connect to receive data from your contact list. After that, in the search field, start typing the contact's name, and then click on its icon or number to make a call. Your iPhone will begin dialing the caller, and you will hear all sounds (beeps, voice of the interlocutor) on your Mac. Just like you will need to speak into the microphone of your computer, i.e. without interacting with the smartphone in any way.

It's really convenient. The application is designed nicely, although it does not have many different windows. As an additional bonus, the smartphone's charge status is shown on the application icon. Automatically knows how to establish a connection every subsequent time after the connection is broken (the computer went into sleep mode or you returned to it, getting into the signal coverage area) quite quickly.

But, of course, there were some downsides. The sound quality leaves much to be desired (although this is more likely a matter of connection/coverage quality), and in a room with little furniture, your interlocutor will hear an echo, sometimes quite noticeable, which is not the case when calling via FaceTime. And second: if you use any other applications that connect your Mac and iPhone via Bluetooth, only one will work. For example, Bluetooth Screen Lock, which I had already become accustomed to, no longer noticed my leaving the computer, and as a result, did not block it, keep this in mind when installing Connect.

P.S. It should be noted that Connect works not only with Apple smartphones. Theoretically, this could be any phone with a Bluetooth module.

Continuity technology among users: now you don't have to pick up your iPhone to answer a call - you can click "Answer" right on your Mac computer screen. But for some reason, not everyone uses the reverse function - calls from a computer to regular phones using an Apple smartphone, since this parameter is configured additionally.

First, let's determine the minimum system requirements. Your computer must be running OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or later, and iPhone must be or later.

If all conditions are met, open the iPhone settings, and then to the section. Here you need to activate the “iPhone Cellular Calls” toggle switch. Done? Let's move on.

Then it's the Mac's turn. Launch the FaceTime application and open its settings. Check the box next to “iPhone (cellular calls)”. If the application starts complaining that you must log into FaceTime with the same Apple ID as on the iPhone, then you need to disable this function on your iPad due to a “conflict” between devices.

After that, open contacts on the Mac, select any user and call him as if we were doing it using an iPhone.

How to dial a phone number to make a call on Mac?

Unfortunately, this is not yet possible. It is likely that Apple will add this feature, but a little later.

As Apple users have already learned, the Continuity function in OS X Yosemite allows users to answer calls from an iPhone, which, for example, is not “at hand” at the time of the call, directly from the computer, as well as make calls, but not everyone still knows how to correctly configure or disable the duplicate sound of calls on devices For example, if you have an iPhone, iPad and Mac in your apartment, an incoming call to your smartphone can sound like a cannonade from all devices linked to one Facetime account. Agree that there is something to wince from, especially if the volume is turned on above average.

So, how to stop duplicate calls on all devices?

If you do not want the call to be duplicated on all devices paired with your Facetime account, then you need to follow these steps on your iPhone or iPad:

How can I selectively disable duplicate calls on individual paired devices?

In order to turn off a duplicate call on a Mac paired with a Facetime account, you need to:

  • Open Facetime → Settings (⌘ + comma).
  • Uncheck the box next to “iPhone (cellular calls).”

In order to turn off a duplicate call on an iPad paired with a Facetime account, you need to:

  • Open Settings → Facetime.
  • Switch the toggle switch next to “iPhone Cellular Calls” to the inactive position.

This way, you will retain the functionality of Continuity, but at the same time you will not be constantly annoyed by duplicate calls on different devices.

If you want to periodically answer calls from your Mac, but don't want to hear a loud ringing tone for an incoming call, you need to Turn on silent mode for incoming calls on Mac.

In order to do this, it is enough to resort to one trick: simply change the sound file of the incoming call to a file with complete silence. This way, the call will appear on your Mac and you can answer it, but the ringtone won't play.

For this:

  • Download the silence sound file Blues.m4r.
  • Open the following path in Finder

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ToneLibrary.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Ringtones/

  • Rename the file Blues.m4r, for example, to Blues-old.m4r. There is no need to remove it or replace it, in case you want to return the sound.
  • Move the downloaded Blues.m4r file to this directory.
  • Enter the administrator password.
  • Open Facetime → Settings.
  • In the “Ringtone” menu, select the “Classical” section and the “Blues” track.

From now on, during an incoming call, a notification will be displayed asking you to “Accept” or “Reject” the call, but instead of a ringtone there will be silence.

Attention! Sometimes, after setting up call forwarding, the Mac may stop receiving calls from the iPhone altogether. To solve the problem, just log out and log back into your Facetime account.

Mac OS X Yosemite allows you to make phone calls directly from your computer (laptop). But to do this, of course, you must have an iPhone with iOS 8 or later. Let's look at how to make calls from your Mac.

Calling from Mac OS

First, a couple more important conditions. Your iPhone and Mac must use the same Apple ID and be connected to the same WiFi network.

To make calls on a Mac, you use the FaceTime app. Launch FaceTime through the launcher.

In the input line on the left, you can enter the name or email of the contact (if you have it saved) or enter the phone number manually. For example, let's enter the number ourselves, click on the handset icon that appears next to the number, and in the pop-up window with the inscription Call using iPhone Click on the number again.

A new window will appear on the screen and dialing will begin. When the caller answers, you can talk to him using your Mac.

Additional features

You don't have to always have FaceTime running to dial a number. You can dial the desired number in the Calendar, Contacts, Messages, Safari or Spotlight programs.
