When creating VKontakte Offline, I had the idea that the development of our most famous social network was not going quite the right way. If at the very beginning the very concept of “staying in touch” was actively used and meant “having access to a list of your friends,” now it means “staying on the site itself,” spending your time finding out what happened with your friends, keeping track of for new messages, etc.
Then I had the idea to make a short stop and imagine how I would like to use my data from the contact, provided that most of my friends sit there, and important correspondence periodically takes place in private messages. The solution was to create an application that should notify about new messages even when the contact tab is closed, and also (ideally) when the browser is closed. The application should always provide access to correspondence, even when there is no Internet connection.
Correspondence
The main idea of using the application is its invisibility. You don't have to keep it open and see what's going on - you can close it and it will still notify you of new messages as soon as they arrive. If you need to find something in correspondence, or find the contact phone number of the person you need, then in the application this is done in 2 clicks. If there is no Internet connection, all correspondence and the contact list are also available for viewing and searching. The application is aimed at those people who value their time, but want to stay in touch with their friends and acquaintances. And also for those who have problems with the Internet channel.

The basis of the application interface was created at the Google Hackathon in St. Petersburg on August 27 and 28. At the same time, his first presentation was made. The application is actively developing and now it includes search for contacts and messages, which I talk about in the video. It is also possible to work with contacts and correspondence in the absence of the Internet, as well as notifications of new messages even when the browser is closed. Notifications
There were some mistakes too. As soon as the application had its first users, a very offensive bug surfaced in Chromium (http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=94314), when on Windows computers with Russian usernames it was impossible to work with the file system. The application installed, but could not reach the background page. As a result, a fairly large number of users were lost, and the overall impression of the application was certainly spoiled. However, the error was discovered in the evening of the same day and corrected the next morning.

For users of the Yandex browser and Google Chrome, there is a convenient and simple application that will allow you to hide the fact of your presence on the VK social network from outside observers. It's called VK offline.
It is easy to install and will not pose any problems even for people who do not have deep knowledge of setting up computers and programs.
Installing the plugin
In order to install this application, you need to open your browser and go to the program menu. Next, go to the “Add-ons” section. In the page that opens, we see all installed and active applications for our browser - we need to scroll down this page and click on the yellow button “Yandex Browser Extensions Catalog”:

An application store will open in front of us. Using the search, we find the VK offline extension for the Yandex browser and click “Install”
The program will install automatically. Don't forget to restart your browser for all changes to take effect. After installation, the user will be prompted to authorize their account.
Important! Do not download programs of this type from unverified sites. Attackers can easily imitate the program interface and, when entering the user’s personal data, can easily take possession of it and hack your page.
The plugin's operating principle is based on API request technology. After authorization, the program will save all your information in a cache, which will be updated as you connect to the Internet, while the user’s status in the network itself remains “offline”. Thanks to this, we can easily read any of our correspondence, view news, listen to music without giving away our activity. In addition, even in the complete absence of an Internet connection, you can use cached information offline.
Features of the program include:

Since, unfortunately, the developers of this social network did not take care of the functionality that hides our activity on the network, we have to use third-party applications. This is not always convenient, but it bears fruit.
